Tip of the Week for Instructors
Week 8
1. Mid-semester grades are very helpful for students. If you can let students know exactly how they are doing it can help them set goals for the rest of the semester.
2. Some MCTC instructors offered suggestions for questions you might add to the SIR II student evaluations that you may be giving later this semester:
a. What parts of this course would you prefer to cover in more depth?
b. What parts of the course do you believe should be eliminated?
c. Do you feel that this course has prepared you for dealing with the complexities of doing X well? (choose some specific task or objective from your course)
d. What would you like to spend less time doing in the course, and what would you spend more time doing?
e. What activities do you feel enhanced your learning in this course?
3. Ten Activities for Learning Partners (or Pairs)
a. Discuss a reading together
b. Interview each other (reactions)
c. Critique or edit each other’s work
d. Question each other about a reading
e. Recap a lesson
f. Develop questions together to ask the teacher
g. Analyze a case problem, exercise, or experiment
h. Test each other
i. Respond to a question posed by the teacher
j. Compare notes written in lecture*
